about

In Hip-Hop journalism, the best rapper of all time is usually whatever consensus can be reached between Krs-One, Rakim, or Nas. Though all three of them comprise the bedrock of hip hop, everyone knows that the true G.O.A.T. is one O'Shea Jackson, AKA Ice Cube. His best work contains a fury that puts most punk to shame: " fuck AmeriKKKa, still with the triple k" "you can burn your cross while I burn your flag" "blacker than a trillion midnights". This is the guy who wrote a song called Fuck the Police during a time when rap was under such public scrutiny that it caused protests and boycotts. In the song " We Had to Tear This Muthafucka Up" Cube attempts to justify the 1992 LA riots after the Rodney King verdict, and actually makes specific threats of violence against the officers acquitted, who he repeatedly mentions by name. It must be noted that not all of his lyrics have aged well- much of his older work is peppered with homophobic insults, and a handful traffic in unfortunate stereotypes against the Koreans and Japanese people who did business in his South Central Los Angeles neighborhood. But despite those aspects that Cube has left in the past (he no longer performs the songs that contain those elements), the fury of his first several album remains unmatched in almost every genre of music. Anyone who scoffs at his latter day career as a family friendly actor or celebrity obviously does not own a copy of "The Predator ". So here's to O'Shea Jackson, greatest of all time. "But I never run, never will...dealin with the devil with my motherfuckin steel...BOOM!"

A note on the physical release: this thing is obviously a walking copyright infringement. Daint Recordings has only made a small amount of physical copies on 3" cdr, and those will be distributed for free as we see fit. We're not even giving it a catalog number. Mr. Cube will probably never even know that this thing exists, so if you want to resell it after you own one then go right ahead, but we for one are not willing to incur the wrath of the man who "can't hang around my momma cuz I scare her".

P.s.- the second G.O.A.T. is Ghostface, go ahead and prove me wrong.
